Tui Na is a form of Chinese manipulative therapy. It is a hands-on body treatment that uses Chinese Taoist and martial arts principles to bring the eight principles of Chinese medicine into balance. The practitioner uses different techniques such at push, lift and squeeze, and push the areas between each of the joints, known as the eight gates, open the body’s defensive Qi and get the energy moving in the meridians and the muscles.
Other strokes include brush, knead, roll, press, rub, feel, shaking and tapotement. The practitioner can then use range of motion, traction, with the stimulation of acupressure points. Tui Na can break down stasis, reduce swelling, relax muscles, promote circulation, and promote healing process.
